About Gimhae International Airport

Gimhae International Airport is located in Busan, South Korea. The airport serves both domestic and international flights and is the main hub for Air Busan. One of the airport’s runways is used for Gimhae Air Base military purposes.

The airport opened in 1976 with a new international terminal added in October 2007 and continues to expand and grow, welcoming both visitors and connecting flight passengers. It is made up of three levels including the usual check in and security, information desk, banks, restaurants, cafes, shops, currency exchange and an outdoor garden and food court on its third level. Gimhae International Airport is conveniently situated within easy reach of iconic landmarks and popular attractions like Taejongdae, one of Busan’s natural parks which are particularly famous for its rock beach, in addition to a forest of over 200 varieties of trees, cruise ship terminal, popular amusement park and lighthouse. Legend has it that beneath the Lighthouse sits Sinseon Rock, an area where the gods and goddesses would come to relax. Shilla Millennium Park is a theme park that integrates both entertainment and education, concentrating on the Silla Period with reproductions of Silla architecture, symbolic architecture and the opportunity to get creative with dye, metal and clay craft making, together with learning about traditional and wooden art.

Several Busan Subway Lines have services from the airport to central Busan. The subway serves Sasang Station and Daejeon Station. There are a number of local buses that run regular services from both the international and domestic terminals that serve Busan Station and beyond Taxis run regularly to and from the airport, with a journey time approximately 30 minutes from downtown Busan.

Gimhae Airport began life as Busan Suyeong Airport in 1958 and then Busan International Airport in 1963. Needing further expansion, the airport moved again to its present location 1976 and renamed Gimhae International.
