Yongduam Rock is a must-see attraction that legend holds is the solidified remains of a water dragon. The impressive formation is only dwarfed by the nearby Yongyeon Pond, where you can stop for photographs. If you’re looking for a taste of man-made history, the Jeju Wooden Government Offices are an impressive display of traditional landscaping located in the heart of Jeju.

To soak in the fresh air, take a stroll through the Halls Arboretum where lengths of manicured gardens are set against a rugged coastal terrain backdrop. For those who prefer to be more active, hike up South Korea’s highest mountain Hallasan or meander along the Jeju Olle Trails for a taste of traditional heritage and additional sights.

For a dose of art and culture, be sure to check out the galleries contained within the Arario Museum or find some peace in the Buddhist temple Yakcheon-sa. If you enjoy caving then you’re in luck, as the area is renowned for its lava tube caves that you can access through Manjang-gul.

Jeju is famous for its seafood, and a visit here would not be complete without such indulgence. Much of the seafood is caught by haeneyo (female free divers), making for a unique dinner twist. Slurp some seafood soup from the Hamo Restaurant or sample tofu stew from Dasi Boesi at the Haenyeo Museum.

Getting around

The Via Jeju International Airport is your entrance hub and is located only four kilometres away from the city centre. Intercity bus routes make for an efficient way of getting around, but none are extensively labelled so be sure you plan your route in advance. Walking is the most efficient and rewarding way of seeing the sights, with most prominent destinations situated within a short distance of each other.
