Explore the vibrant city of Mokpo, the gateway to Jeju Island and the idyllic islets of Dadohae Haesang National Park. Sample the local specialty, “skate”, in the lively fish market, then follow one of the hiking trails up the slopes of Yudalsan Mountain for magnificent city views.

Wander along the picturesque walking trails of Damyang’s Juknokwon bamboo forest, then visit the Korean Bamboo Museum to see ancient bamboo handicrafts and learn about bamboo cultivation. Don’t miss the nearby village of Samjicheon, a designated “Slow City” clustered with Heritage-listed hanok houses.

Stroll through the beautiful Daehan Dawon Tourist Tea Plantation, located near Boseong in the east of Jeollanam-do. Follow the scenic Cedar Forest Path and explore the Palgakjeong Pavilion while soaking up views of tea plantations.

Want to see one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea? Visit the Songgwangsa Temple, nestled on the western slope of Jogyesan Mountain. Admire its National Treasures, including the Bisari Gusi container used by monks to store rice, the intricately carved Neunggyeonnansa plate and the Ssanghyangsu Chinese juniper trees.

Getting around

Muan International Airport is the main gateway to Jeollanam-do, while the train journey from Seoul takes just over four hours. Trains connect some of the region’s towns and cities, while an extensive bus network accesses other destinations.
