About Stadsschouwburg Utrecht
Designed by Willem Dudok in the 1930s, Stadsschouwburg Utrecht overlooks Lucasbolwerk on the edge of the city centre. It’s the largest theatre in Utrecht and comprises two main halls where Dutch plays, international productions and performing arts festivals are regularly held.
Coincide your visit with a performance in the 1,000-seat Douwe Egberts room, which is the main venue at the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht. Shows are also held in the intimate Blue Hall, which has a flat-floor design and grandstands capable of hosting 225 spectators in flexible arrangements.
Want to grab dinner before or after your show? Stadsschouwburg Utrecht is home to the Zindering restaurant where seasonal dishes drawing on organic produce are served. If you’re visiting during the day, head to the theatre cafe, Mrs. Dudok, which offers healthy lunches and afternoon tea accompanied by art-related books and magazines.
Getting there
The Stadsschouwburg Utrecht is a five-minute walk from the centre of Utrecht and 15 minutes from Utrecht Centraal railway station. It can be accessed by numerous bus routes that stop outside the entrance. Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport are around 45 minutes’ drive away.
